The Exhausted One

I think i have set new records for eyebags development already, particularly after today's events. Woke up at 630am to support Ben for the intermediate final event. He did so well I'm so happy that he's fulfilling all his archery goals before we graduate

Came back and worked on poster and logo designs. Wonder if I'm giving myself too much non-academic work to do :X But i much prefer doing such stuff over studying, really....

Yesterday Ben and I saw the star, Alderbaran, sitting in the night sky glowing red-hot cherry topped. It's about 44 times the size of the sun, isn't that crazy fascinating? Stars are so strange, they get so hot they expand and then because they expand they cool down and then they contract again. I don't really understand all the complicated physics behind it but it's really quite intriguing. Anyway Alderbaran is in the constellation, Taurus, so i assumed it'd be a good luck sign for Ben's competition. I guess it was, to some extent ^^

I should sleep now... I'm supposed to study for 3 terrible Japanese quizes over the next few consecutive days so I suppose time's a-wastin' right now.

OMG.

It's 68 days to 日本旅行！！！
That's 2 months and 7 days!
How did time just fly past without my realization? Oh wait. It happens all the time.

Anyway, many things have been settled! And planning's been so fun and awesome and exciting. Accommodation is ridiculously affordable and I think the current accommodation cost stands at SGD$360 in total. That's a crazy $24 a night if you divide it by 15 nights!

We searched real long and hard for cheap accommodations that hadn't all been snapped up and were so glad to find Hoteiya for the time we'll be in Tokyo! I don't know how the conditions will be, apart from the room being tiny, but I believe we don't mind putting up with it because of the low cost. Hoteiya itself is a bare $21 a night?? (Based on a conversion of SGD$1.30 to 100Y)

We also slipped in a last minute plan to go to Rabbit Island in Hiroshima! Omg. I think i will cry when I touch the grounds of this island. And the bunnies.

Other exciting additions to the plan include Disneyland! I've never been to any Disneyland of any sort in my life so I was really contemplating hard... mainly because of the price tag attached... a whooping EIGHTY DOLLARZZZ.... But we decided that it would be a waste to miss it! Next time I might feel too old to enjoy it :C And especially since this year will be its 30th Anniversary too! Limited Edition stuff!! I hope the real thing is as mystical, wonderful and magical as I imagine it to be!

We're gonna be visiting so many zoos and aquariums and scenic spots that I don't think (or at least I hope) we will end up spending much on shopping. I think there're only 2 days where we actually touch the shoppidy places. But you know, I don't need to be near shopping areas to overspend. A convenient store will do. woe is me.

I ain't putting any pictures of the places we're gonna visit up here because I'm gonna wait till I capture them on my own instead of plucking them from others.

Still thinking about the pack list (considering we haven't got any check-in luggage for the plane trip there). Would like to only bring 3 sets of clothings and just wash them and re-wear them along the way... but it's Japan!! I don't want to take photos in the same clothes at different places! I wanna wear fancy stuff everyday! Like them! squeaks* Okay but in the end I'll probably just bring along my favourite and most convenient pieces and just wear them over and over. Lol. 

I can't wait to experience my 15 days in Japan.

The Change

I just read some great news today. The Thai government has publicly pledged to end ivory trade in its country!! Okay I'm a bit slow because this was posted on the WWF page a few days ago. But I'm so glad and relieved and my trust in the world has been reinstated... a body of authorities is willing to do something that works against their possibility of profiting monetarily!!

yesterday I scribbled some words about my devastation with the attitude of certain parties in the world because of the global change lecture I attended yesterday. Unfortunately I didnt save the draft so everything's gone now But I shall just scribble up a summary of it again.

Basically Global Change lecture always leaves me depressed because it brings back to me the reality of the plight of the Earth, and the fact that many are reluctant to help. And i don't mean people like us living day to day, only able to help in the smallest ways by recycling and saving whenever we can. I mean the people who can really make a difference. The people with the capital, with the power, with only the lack of determination and conviction.

I was told how companies that believed the state of the world could be changed by implementing solar panels went bankrupt because they did not have sufficient support from the right people. People who have their great ideas shattered because other's can't bear to give up their luxurious lives. They don't want to break their ties with the electric companies, the gas, fuel, oil companies, huge industries that can bring in billions. They don't want to see the Earth crumbling, even when it is. They hide inside their grand homes with their windows pulled tight and the curtains drawn and they don't see what the others see. The others who live among this black fog, the smoke, the smog. The others who are breathing in this evil air, falling ill, dying... They don't see and don't want to see but they can't escape it because someday, those windows are going to have to be opened. And then all that's left would be a black earth, a dark, dark earth...

What's the point of getting all the greens and blues of processed trees when the place you live is just dying? Things can be done, amazing ideas have been drawn out, but the people who can make a change don't want to.

It's true I may not see the whole story, but there is very little to convince one of the reasons why anyone would refuse to invest in power source that's emission-free, cost-free, efficient and most importantly, Earth friendly.

Ice caps are already retreating and glaciers melting so fast that 30-40m are lost each year, football fields of land are being lost to the oceans. Each Year!!!
I just can't bear watching the Earth just die...

The Sleepless Night

insomnia
my phobia
it can strike whenever

wakefulness just hits me hard,
and i can't sleep, i only see
shadows on the ceiling
and the fan just spinning, spinning.
The sound of engines
passing through the night
watch other rooms turn out the lights

to me as I decline an invitation to their tea party

shrug and only turn away.

The Monday

A monday morning. The sleepless night before, of dreaming strange things that my mind cannot ignore. Rising at the breakfast of a spilt glass of orange juice, I glance upon my scattered goals, flip through my future for a minute or two. It seems a mess, but there's pages to it. There's hope of some sort.

I have to get down to work, I got up to do just that. The pieces of information worth a hundred marks lie before me and I am supposed to indulge and absorb and spit out at will.

I slap on a piece of morning rejuvenation. It's royal jelly this time. Cold, sweet, like the dew of every day itself poured over my sleep-deprived soul. I shall be ready in 15minutes.

Ready to face to memories of today, the trials of tomorrow. I should be ready. If by night I am not, only insomnia can take me.

The Gastronomy

Today I had an expensive brunch with dear Cang Ning and a really cheap dinner with Alien!

Expensive brunch was at the book cafe. We ordered Minestrone soup (5.95) and Eggs Ben(14.95), mushroom soup(5.95) and aglio olio (14.95). My first time eating eggs ben and I don't think I will be eating it again. Only cause I like my eggs with dark sauce wayyy more~~

Minestrone was awesome. Served hot, and a generous portion. The eggs ben was perfectly runny actually. Luckily for the ham below, the rather bland holladaise sauce was complemented much more suitably. Didn't finish because it was too bland.

Aglio Olio was pretty nice. Moist? and spicy to the right degree. Mushroom soup was too wild for me. One mouthful and you feel like a gnome having dinner.
Total bill for the both of us? $48+ :O gawshhhh....

Dinner! Frog's leg porridge at Geylang Lor 9. We walked from aljunied MRT cux that's where my tuition was. We ordered the smallest of everything, $8 for the frog's leg and $2 for the porridge. $5 per person only!! The frog's leg sauce was really spicy but heavenly.... I could do without the frog and just have the sauce really. The portion was about right for the both of us.

A whole day of gastronomic delights! :D
